RESTORED FOUR EVANGELISTS SCULPTURES FROM VILNIUS ST. JOHN’S CHURCH

Due to the high relative humidity in the church basement, polychrome of sculptures was flaked off from the wood, fragile, glued parts loosened and dropped off. Wooden details as well as the newly carved small fragments were assembled and glued into their right locations. Based on the results of analysis it was decided partially restore polychromy of sculptures. Open areas were covered with coloured restoration ground and left without retouching. In this way restoration ground mechanically strenghened vulnerable polychromy of sculptures.
